Pet ownership is on the rise across the UK, and Cardiff is no exception. A recent Petplan survey, involving over 2,000 pet owners across the UK, has highlighted how Cardiff pet owners are not only embracing this trend but are also demonstrating significant preparedness and financial savviness when it comes to caring for their pets.
One of the key findings of the survey is that Cardiff pet owners are particularly financially astute. On average, they budget £64.05 and spend £64.45 monthly on their pets, showcasing their commitment to ensuring their furry friends are well taken care of without breaking the bank.
When it comes to researching the costs associated with pet ownership, Cardiff residents are ahead of the curve. More than half (57%) of the respondents from Cardiff took the time to investigate the cost of pet insurance before bringing a pet into their homes. Similarly, 53% researched common pet health issues, and another 53% looked into the overall cost of pet ownership, including expenses for food, grooming, and vet bills.
In addition to financial preparation, Cardiff pet owners are also engaging in thoughtful discussions with their families or household members about the responsibilities of pet care. The survey revealed that 53% of Cardiff respondents discussed the decision to get a pet and the roles each member would play in caring for it, highlighting a strong sense of shared responsibility.
However, despite their thorough preparations, some Cardiff pet owners expressed a few areas they wished they had considered more carefully before getting their pets. For instance, 24% wished they had thought more about the cost and management of care when away from their pets, while 23% felt they should have considered how pet care would fit into their daily routines.
While cities like Glasgow and Plymouth top the list of the most confident UK cities in terms of pet preparedness, with 90% of respondents feeling prepared, Cardiff is not far behind. An impressive 83% of Cardiff respondents believe they were adequately prepared for pet ownership.
This survey underscores the careful consideration and planning that many Cardiff residents are putting into pet ownership, ensuring that they are ready for the joys and challenges that come with welcoming a new pet into their lives.
