Trust celebrates purchase of iconic St John’s House

The St John’s House Trust has successfully purchased one of Bridgend’s most iconic buildings in St John’s House, after first announcing a bid more than ten years ago.

The Trust was first formed in 2011 with the aim of raising £150,000 to purchase the building, an early 16th century house – the oldest habitable dwelling in Bridgend with a history over 500 years – to save it from being sold on. With the help of donations from across the world, the trust has now succeeded in buying the historic building.

Visitors are invited to explore the house and play their own role in safeguarding the building’s future.

While specific plans have not yet been announced, the core aim of the Trust is to preserve St John’s House for future generations whilst ensuring that it acts as a hub run by and for the local community.

Those interested in helping preserve this important piece of Welsh history can make a monthly donation, which will go directly to maintaining the house and helping establish it as a leading heritage attraction.
