A former Coleg Cambria student is riding high after helping Wrexham AFC complete a stunning rise to the Championship.
Harry Ashfield, who recently completed a Level 3 Sports qualification at the college’s Yale campus, has played a key role in Wrexham’s remarkable ascent, celebrating their third consecutive promotion — this time from League One to the second tier of English football.
Now signed with the Red Dragons until the end of the 2026/27 season, the energetic midfielder is eager to test himself against clubs like Leicester City, Southampton, and Ipswich Town.
“I am still in shock that we have managed to be promoted three times in a row, from non-league to the Championship – it’s an amazing achievement,” said Harry, a former Darland High School pupil.
“I have enjoyed my time at Coleg Cambria and making my way into the Wrexham AFC squad. The challenge now is to keep working hard and improving and hopefully continue to shine when I get my opportunities.
“This is a big stage for me and all the players, but we are already looking forward to next season and showing we belong at this level.
“Thanks also to all the fans, who have been amazing this year as always – it’s been a real rollercoaster ride!”
Harry’s breakout season saw him named the 2023/24 Bob Clark Academy Player of the Year. At just 18, he’s already been called up multiple times by manager Phil Parkinson and continues to impress with his performances and potential.
A boyhood Wrexham supporter, Harry fulfilled a lifelong dream by scoring his first professional goal in a 4-1 win over Port Vale in the Vertu Trophy. His journey from the club’s Under-12s to a place in the senior squad reached a milestone when he made his professional debut against Crewe Alexandra in October 2023.
Reflecting on his new deal with the club, Harry said: “It’s an excellent feeling to sign a new deal with my club. I’m excited to kick on and see what I can do in the first team – hopefully I can prove myself.”
His rapid development has also seen him travel to North Carolina for TST, and take part in Wrexham’s Wrex Coast Tour of the USA and Canada last summer.
Manager Phil Parkinson added: “I’d like to congratulate Harry on his new contract. We’re looking forward to seeing his development.”
