A beloved new event in the childcare calendar looks set to grow each year after making a strong debut.
The first-ever Childcare Show took place at Coleg Cambria’s £14m Nant building at Yale in Wrexham, drawing guests from across the childcare sector and the wider region.
Spearheaded by Childcare Assessor Lauren Lawrence – a former nursery manager with more than a decade of experience – the event marked a milestone for the college, bringing together leading voices in the industry.
With over 30 organisations and businesses in attendance, the show also served as a vibrant showcase for Coleg Cambria’s childcare courses and state-of-the-art facilities. Up to 100 students and their families, alongside charities and key sector stakeholders, joined Lauren and her team in celebrating the field.
She said:
“The event was filled with an incredible atmosphere that truly inspired our students. We took great joy in celebrating their achievements together.
“This experience has instilled in us a genuine optimism for future Childcare Shows, and we look forward to deepening the partnerships we’ve established.
“We’ve had lots of positive feedback from those who came along and would like to thank them for being a part of it.”
Among the attendees were learners from Levels 2 and 3 of the Children’s Care, Play and Learning qualification, reflecting the range of pathways available to budding childcare professionals.
Representatives from the NHS, Forest School, Wrexham Family Information Service, quality assessors, and private nurseries also took part, offering valuable insights and inspiration.
Lauren emphasised the importance of reshaping perceptions around careers in childcare:
“There are so many options out there, but traditionally this hasn’t been seen as a viable long-term career, a perception we want to change,” she added.
“We are already being asked to make this an annual celebration and after the success of our first event we definitely plan to do so.”
