Cardiff’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Adrian Robson, and Lady Mayoress, Councillor Jayne Cowan, were among those who spotted a purple furry cat-shaped taxi that visited Cardiff on Saturday 28 June.
Cats Protection visited the city in the eye-catching ‘Cat Cab’, complete with ears and a tail, to promote the charity’s National Cat Awards 2025.
The cab visited sites across the city, including:
- Queen Street
- St David’s Shopping Centre (Hayes Bridge Road)
- Cardiff Castle (Castle Street)
- Cardiff Central Station (Penarth Road)
- The Hayes
Eager shoppers and passers-by stopped to take a look and stroke the furry vehicle, which also featured an interactive karaoke machine where visitors could sing along, learn more about Cats Protection and cast their votes for this year’s awards.
Councillor Adrian Robson said: “It was lovely to see the Cat Cab in Cardiff bringing a smile to people’s faces and raising awareness of the National Cat Awards and the work of Cats Protection.”
Councillor Jayne Cowan added: “The Cat Cab was a real talking point in Cardiff Bay and it’s great to see charities like Cats Protection engaging with the public in such a fun and creative way.”
The National Cat Awards celebrates the difference cats make to people’s lives, with finalists competing in categories including Incredible Cat, Senior Cat, Family Cat and Connected Cat, with the hope of being named National Cat of the Year 2025.
Among this year’s finalists is Mitts from Blaenau Ffestiniog, who supported her owner Louise through homelessness, and Fizz from Llandrindod Wells, a local celebrity cat known for visiting shops, the gym and even walking onto the stage during performances.
Voting is now open, and cat-lovers have until midday on 31 July to vote for their favourite finalist at www.cats.org.uk/nca.
