New research from TK Maxx has revealed half of Welsh homeowners redecorate annually, highlighting a strong passion for keeping their interiors fresh and on-trend.
The research looks at the design preferences of over 2,000 UK residents, revealing the nation’s top styles, where they garner their design inspiration and how often people take the plunge and refresh their spaces.
The survey found that a ‘contemporary’ style was most popular with respondents, with 14% describing their design style as such. In Wales specifically, the most popular design style was ‘traditional’ (14%). Other popular design styles in the region were ‘minimalist’ (11%) and ‘rustic’ (12%). This followed a similar trend in the capital, with 15% describing their style as ‘traditional’ and 14% of Cardiff respondents saying their style was rustic.
The majority (60%) of Brits had said their home decor preferences had changed recently, this was slightly lower in Wales and Cardiff, at 58%. 19% of Welsh respondents said this is because their personal tastes or preferences had changed, 23% of Cardiff respondents said the same. And only 6% cited they were influenced by trends in interior design (the lowest of all regions).
69% of respondents said they find décor inspiration from social media, 95% of 25–34-year-olds but 43% of 55+ year olds. 67% of those in Wales and 70% of those in Cardiff use social media for inspiration, specifically in the city 48% use Instagram and 41% use Facebook.
58% of Welsh respondents said sustainability was important in their home decor choices, 25% said it was very important and 30% in Cardiff said the same, the top city to say this.
50% of Welsh respondents refresh their homes once a year with new home decor pieces, the mean number of months between refreshes in Wales was every 17 months, this was the same in Cardiff.
