A leading planning consultancy is entering a dynamic new chapter with the appointment of a new Managing Director following a sustained period of growth and success.
Cadnant Planning, based in Conwy and Pulford (near Wrexham and Chester), is recognised as one of the most respected names in the town planning sector. The firm has now appointed Associate Planner Sioned Edwards as its new Managing Director, marking a significant milestone in its development.
With a team of six, Cadnant has played a pivotal role in major projects across North Wales and the North West, collaborating with infrastructure developers, leisure operators, education institutions, landowners, commercial developers, private housebuilders and Registered Social Landlords (RSLs).
Sioned, originally from Montgomeryshire and now based in Conwy, joined Cadnant as a graduate 13 years ago. She now steps into a leadership role alongside Founder and Director Rhys Davies, who launched the business two decades ago and rebranded it as Cadnant Planning in 2012.
“Together, we’ve built a strong reputation and loyal client base. That won’t change,” said Sioned. “But we’re now looking to the future – exploring new sectors and geographic areas. I’m excited to lead the business into its next phase.”
Rhys Davies added: “I remain a Director and will continue to be closely involved, but this is about the future. Sioned is the right person to lead our long-term vision and strategy.”
That strategy includes growing Cadnant’s footprint in Flintshire, Wrexham and into Cheshire and the Wirral, where the consultancy has already delivered successful planning outcomes.
Offering services ranging from planning appraisals and applications to appeals, language impact assessments, and expert witness work, Cadnant has always maintained its strong Welsh identity and commitment to sustainability, bilingualism, and developing the next generation of planning professionals.
Speaking ahead of her appearance at Place North West’s sub-regional briefing event, Sioned highlighted the need for reform in planning processes across Wales and England: “There’s a lack of awareness about the significant legislative differences between the two countries. Being across both systems is a real strength for us.”
She continued: “We’ve contributed to task groups on affordable housing and believe the sector needs greater funding, improved infrastructure, and clearer strategic leadership – especially in rural areas.”
Reflecting on her journey, Sioned said: “Having been part of Cadnant from the beginning, I’m proud of how far we’ve come. We’ve expanded our presence, weathered the challenges of the pandemic, and built a brilliant, resilient team. We’re excited for what’s next – from Conwy to Chester and beyond.”
Rhys concluded: “From starting out alone in a small Conwy office to a multidisciplinary team of six, this journey has been incredible. With Sioned at the helm, Cadnant Planning is in very safe hands and ready to grow even further.”
