FleetEV invests in local talent

Cardiff-based electric vehicle (EV) provider FleetEV welcomes two Cardiff and Vale College apprentices as it invests in local young talent.

Willow Kerr-Smith and Emily Preddy have joined FleetEV as Apprentice Sales and Operations Administrators, taking on roles spanning sales, operations and marketing while working towards their Level 3 Business Administration qualifications.

The 12-to-15-month apprenticeship programme, delivered through Cardiff and Vale College, combines on-the-job experience with formal learning and is designed to develop a broad range of business administration skills, including information management, customer service, digital skills, event coordination and marketing research.

For Willow, the opportunity to join FleetEV was particularly appealing because of the company’s focus on sustainability and its ambitions for growth.

Willow said: “I was attracted to FleetEV because it is environmentally friendly and a company that is keen to grow. I think that gives me the opportunity to progress within the business while developing my skills and experience.

“I’m looking forward to growing in a corporate role and learning skills that will help me in the future.”

Emily was similarly drawn to FleetEV’s focus on aiding the transition from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric transport and the opportunity to work in a growing industry with a clear environmental purpose.

Emily said: “I wanted to join FleetEV because of its strong focus on green energy and zero-emission vehicles. It is an industry that is growing and has a genuine purpose, particularly in terms of its potential environmental impact.

“I’m hoping to gain my Level 3 Business Administration qualification while assisting the sales, operations and marketing teams. I also want to build useful skills and experience that will allow me to contribute effectively to the team and communicate information between departments.”

FleetEV is supporting both apprentices as they combine their roles within the business with their college studies. As part of the Cardiff and Vale College programme, apprentices receive regular assessor support and complete self-study and college-based assessments alongside their employment. The programme also supports the development of Welsh language skills in the workplace.

Jarrad Morris, Founder of FleetEV, said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Willow and Emily to the FleetEV team.

“Apprenticeships are a great way of giving young people the opportunity to gain real experience while developing their skills and qualifications, and we’re keen to support the next generation of talent here in Wales.

“Both Willow and Emily have already brought enthusiasm, fresh ideas and a real willingness to learn. They’re joining FleetEV at an exciting time as the business continues to grow, and we’re looking forward to seeing them develop their skills and careers with us.”

Michèle Gate, Work Based Learning Training Coordinator at Cardiff and Vale College, said: “FleetEV has been incredibly supportive and has provided Emily and Willow with a fantastic opportunity to develop their skills, gain valuable industry experience and build a strong foundation for their future careers while working towards their Level 3 apprenticeship.

“Both Emily and Willow are highly motivated learners and a real pleasure to support, and it has been wonderful to see them embrace this opportunity and make such a positive start to their apprenticeship journey.”

The appointments form part of FleetEV’s wider commitment to developing its team while creating opportunities for young people to build careers within Wales’ growing low-carbon economy.
