March 2025: It was Aces High when Welsh sporting legends went head-to-head with customers at Grosvenor Casino Cardiff this week to help raise £5,600 for local Cardiff City Hospice.
The tournament was flushed with sporting legends including two-time boxing world champion, Joe Cordina; former Welsh Rugby Union player, Craig Quinnell; three-time snooker world champion; Mark Williams and England cricket coach; Matthew Maynard.
Grosvenor Casinos donated a £2,000 prize pot, with all proceeds going directly to the charity to provide medical support to families and their loved ones in need of end-of-life care. The sporting legends were joined by 80 top poker players who competed to knock the celebrities out of the game and come out on top in aid of the hospice, with the evening’s winner bluffing their way to victory to claim £1,000.
Nicky Piper MBE, said: “The £5,600 raised at the charity poker tournament will help City Hospice care for patients suffering from life-limiting illnesses in Cardiff. I would like to thank the Grosvenor Casino for providing the prize money, the celebrities that added a bit of sparkle, and the 80 players that took part.
