New traffic lights to be installed along busy road

Drivers are being advised to expect some temporary disruption next month when work begins on replacing ageing sets of traffic lights at two busy locations in Bridgend County Borough.

The traffic lights, which have been in operation for more than 25 years, are located at two different sites along the A473 in Bridgend – the main entrance to the Broadlands estate, and the junction at the bottom of Park Street.

As the A473 remains one of the county borough’s most well-used routes, the work is essential in order to ensure that traffic can continue to flow efficiently and to safeguard driver and pedestrian safety for the future.

The works will be carried out in two separate stages – 23 May to 23 June at the Broadlands junction, and 27 June to 5 August at the end of Park Street – and temporary signals will be in place while the new lights are being installed.

Janine Nightingale, Corporate Director for Communities, said: “I’d like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding while these essential works are underway to ensure that highway safety and effective movement of traffic is maintained.

“Unfortunately, it is not possible to carry out work of this kind in such busy locations without causing some unavoidable disruption, and we apologise in advance for any temporary inconvenience that may be experienced.

“While there is never a good time to undertake a project such as this, every effort will be made to minimise inconvenience as much as possible.”
