Care Inspectorate Wales have issued a positive report on the council’s five adult residential and short-stay care homes in the county borough and have highlighted the fact that residents are pleased with the service they receive.
Ty Ynysawdre, Ty Llwynderw, Ty Cwm Ogwr and Bryn y Cae provide support and residential care to adults who are generally over 65 years of age, whilst Breakaway provide short stay residential care for adults aged 18 years and over with a range of needs including learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, physical disabilities, and complex needs.
The overview and scrutiny committee were presented with the report that praised the relationship staff have with their residents, whilst rating the overall standards of care as ‘good’.
Other positives include residents having a wide variety of choices in relation to food and activities, with credit also being given for the management of medication and infection control procedures.
In line with usual practice, some small improvements were required such as ensuring staff receive up-to-date training and making certain that all the required policies are in place. The improvements have since either been addressed or are in the process of being addressed.
Cllr Jane Gebbie, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Social Services and Early Help, said: “It’s really pleasing that the strong relationships between staff and residents have been recognised in the report.
“It’s encouraging to see that many of the improvements have already been completed and there is a strong desire from all involved to make sure that residents continue to receive the best service possible.”
