Premier Forest safeguards manufacturing & engineering jobs with relaunch of Sheffield timber specialist

Leading UK timber supplier Premier Forest Products has relaunched the National Timber Systems (NTS) manufacturing site in Sheffield, bringing skilled jobs back into employment and restoring an important link in the UK’s structural timber supply chain.

The move follows Premier Forest’s acquisition of NTS out of administration at the end of 2025, enabling the business to rehire a core workforce and re-establish supply for housebuilders, developers and merchants across Yorkshire, the Midlands and the North of England.

The Sheffield site, which has been producing engineered timber products for more than 20 years, is now fully operational again, with experienced employees returning to roles across both the shop floor and office. The relaunch also includes improvements to site layout, loading processes and customer communication.

Strategically located between NTS’s Newcastle, Bristol and Catterick operations, Sheffield plays a central role in the company’s national delivery network, supporting reliable service across a wide geographic area.

A high proportion of the original workforce has now returned, reuniting a team with specialist skills and local knowledge built up over two decades. New yard processes, including designated loading areas and enhanced checks before dispatch, are designed to improve delivery accuracy and reliability for customers.

Terry Edgell, Co-founder & CEO of Premier Forest Products, said: “This acquisition was about more than securing assets. It was about bringing people back into work, restoring valuable skills and ensuring customers continue to receive the products they depend on.

“Reopening Sheffield and welcoming the team back has been a key milestone. It strengthens our national network, supports regional employment and puts experienced people back at the heart of our operations.”

Lee Bottley, Sheffield Branch Manager, said: “Just a few months ago the future of the Sheffield site and many of the roles within it was uncertain. Being able to bring our team back and restart production is a hugely positive step.

“We have used that time to reset how the site operates, improving layout, strengthening loading processes and placing a clear focus on communication and customer service.”

Nick Kershaw, Managing Director of National Timber Systems, added: “Sheffield has always been a vital part of our network. Without it, there is a significant gap between our northern and southern operations.

“Re-establishing the site has meant not only restoring capability but also bringing experienced people back into the business and rebuilding momentum for the future.”

The 25,000 sq ft facility is now fully restocked and prepared for increased demand during the spring and summer period.
