Roadworks can cause significant disruption to local communities. The roads in and around Bridgend help us all to move around the town, meeting professional, leisure and family commitments as we go.
Just like motorists should book their MOT online in advance to avoid accidents and breakdowns, scheduled maintenance and repairs are necessary to support our road networks and reduce road accident risks. Various stakeholders are involved in the upkeep of public and private infrastructure, which can cause road disruption from time to time. Here are some of the most important road disruptions coming up in 2023.
What road disruptions are scheduled in Bridgend for 2023?
- M4 (31 Jul-27 Oct)
A lane closure will be in effect during the day for a large stretch of the M4 until late October. You should expect delays during peak times and possibly lower speed limits to keep drivers and workers safe.
- West Road (7-11 Aug)
Multi-way signals will be used on West Road from 7-11 Aug as Wales & West Utilities carries out essential gas network maintenance. Delays are likely with the traffic control measures being implemented.
- Brackla Street (13 Aug)
Openreach will be replacing a telephone pole on 13 Aug and will be using manual traffic control on Brackla Street. These should last through the morning and into early afternoon, so expect some delays if travelling through the town centre.
- Parc Y Fferm and Heol Spencer (29 Aug-11 Sep)
A road closure will be in effect from 29 Aug to 11 Sep on a section of Heol Spencer and Parc Y Fferm. GTC will be carrying out essential gas works and excavations to lay new pipes for residential purposes. Avoid this area if you travel this route regularly.
- Brackla Way and Princess Way Roundabout (3-6 Oct)
Openreach will oversee multi-way signals on Brackla Way and near Princess Way Roundabout at the start of October to allow access to underground infrastructure. Delays are likely leading up to and at the roundabout.
- New Inn Road (11-14 Oct)
New Inn Road will be closing at the rail bridge for Network Rail to perform necessary maintenance and upkeep of the area for their train services. Plan your route to avoid this bridge in advance.
- Cemetery Road (19-20 Oct)
Network Rail will also be carrying out important inspections of a retaining wall on Cemetary Road, but they’ve planned their work overnight so there shouldn’t be much disruption for the masses.
- Hernston Lane (24-28 Oct)
Hernston Lane will be closed at the rail bridge from 24 to 28 Oct as Network Rail carry out bearing refurbishments and masonry repairs. Work should be done overnight, so disruptions should avoid peak times.
