Cardiff’s favourite scents and flavours offer a real taste of the city’s character, and a recent NESCAFÉ survey reveals just what locals enjoy most. From fresh, clean aromas to comforting sweet treats, the survey asked Cardiff residents to share their top scents and flavours, and the results paint a picture of the sensory experiences that define daily life in the city.

Leading the list of favourite scents is the fresh smell of clean laundry – a comforting, familiar fragrance that many Cardiff locals enjoy. Next up are the natural scents of flowers and freshly cut grass, bringing a touch of the outdoors into the urban landscape. And with Cardiff’s close connection to the sea, the smell of an ocean breeze completes the top three.

Cardiff residents are also big fans of warm food and drink aromas, with coffee coming in as the top choice, closely followed by the smell of freshly baked goods. These cosy, inviting scents create a feeling of home, and they’re clear favourites among locals.

When it comes to flavours, Cardiff’s tastes lean towards the sweet side. Chocolate tops the list, with vanilla and caramel coming in close behind – popular choices that reflect the city’s love for rich, indulgent flavours.

The NESCAFÉ survey sheds light on Cardiff’s sensory preferences, which align with broader trends across the UK, where flavours like vanilla and caramel continue to rise in popularity.

“Our survey highlights the UK’s deep affection for sweet sensations, with vanilla emerging as a top aroma, particularly in regions like Greater London and the West Midlands” says Ingrid Hayes, Marketing Director of NESCAFÉ Soluble Coffee.

“We’re thrilled to introduce our new NESCAFÉ Gold Blend flavours – vanilla and caramel. These additions to the Gold Blend range not only enhance the sensory experience but also provide a comforting and indulgent option for coffee lovers. They are designed to delight British taste buds and evoke the cherished memories and emotions that only great flavours can.”
