Would you Walk Through Fire to Support Men’s Wellbeing? Here’s Your Chance!

People are being invited to take on an unusual fundraising challenge this November: a firewalk in support of Lads & Dads Men’s Wellbeing CIC.

On 22 November, anyone aged 14 and over will have the opportunity to walk barefoot across hot coals, raising sponsorship to help Lads & Dads continue its vital work supporting men across the local area.

Participants do not need to be members of Lads & Dads or have any previous firewalking experience, just a willingness to take on a challenge and support a local cause and both men and women are encouraged to take part.

The firewalk is being organised by Dave Muckell of Muckellmile, a director of Lads & Dads Men’s Wellbeing CIC and an experienced firewalk instructor. Dave has participated in more than 300 firewalks and has completed specialist training to become an instructor. He will lead participants through the experience and support them throughout the challenge.

Dave says:

“This will be your shortest sponsored walk ever!”

“A firewalk is about much more than walking across hot coals – it is about challenging yourself, stepping outside your comfort zone and discovering that you are capable of more than you might think.

“Although the money raised will support Lads & Dads, this event is for everyone. We want people to come together, take on a challenge and experience something they may never have imagined themselves doing.”

Lads & Dads Men’s Wellbeing Group was initially created in 2019 with a goal to break down the stigma that men should simply “man up” and deal with things on their own.  The group has gone from strength to strength and The Lads and Dads Wellbeing CIC was officially incorporated on 4 May 2023.

The group provides opportunities for men to meet through walks, outdoor activities, social gatherings and conversations, alongside one-to-one support, signposting and practical help.

Fundraising enables the group to continue to provide support as and when needed and the firewalk gives people the opportunity to support this vital work while taking on a personal challenge of their own.  Dave explains:

“I want people to leave the firewalk with more than just a great memory. I want them to realise that sometimes the biggest barriers are the ones we put in front of ourselves.

“Taking that first step onto the fire can be a powerful reminder of what we are capable of when we challenge ourselves and have people around us who believe in us.”
