This summer the council will be introducing a new campaign called ‘Spend summer in your town centre’ to promote our main towns and all they have to offer.
The campaign has been developed after the successful Christmas initiative and encourages people to visit Bridgend, Porthcawl and Maesteg town centres over the summer months with a core message of relax, reconnect and rediscover.
Summer events include:
- Traditional markets featuring local artisan food, craft and gift market stalls with the finest traders selling locally sourced, handmade, personally designed items.
- A Dog’s trail with Snoopy – between 8 April and 3 June, streets and parks in Cardiff, Caerphilly and Porthcawl will become home to a series of intricately decorated Snoopy sculptures, each designed by local, regional and national artists, designers and illustrators – both well-known favourites and newly emerging talents. All in aid of The Dog’s Trust charity.
- The Healthspan Porthcawl 10k run taking place on 3 July on closed roads throughout the town and taking in a number of landmarks and seaside spots including Rest Bay, Trecco Bay, Sandy Bay, the picturesque town centre, historic Grand Pavilion and the iconic Porthcawl Lighthouse.
- The Classic Car Show in Bridgend town centre on 9 July. Start your engines for the annual classic car show, which will feature a mix of classic cars from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. Families will be able to get up close to some golden oldies in this free event which will also feature live entertainment, while the monthly street market and indoor market craft fayre will be held on the same day.
- Other events include the Bridgend Food Festival, the Love Wales Festival and the world-famous Elvis Festival in Porthcawl.
Janine Nightingale, Corporate Director for Communities said: “This initiative is a wonderful opportunity to promote the thriving town centres of Bridgend, Porthcawl and Maesteg.
“With so many fantastic events taking place over the summer, residents will not be short of things to do and places to visit. After the last two years of uncertainty and restrictions, it is great to be able to encourage people in Wales to once again go out and discover all that the county borough has to offer.
“These events are the perfect way for people to reconnect and rediscover the many wonderful places that are right on their doorstep.”
To support the initiative there is a new webpage on the council’s website, listing all of the town centre summer events, including the dates of the Green Top Events street markets in Bridgend and Porthcawl town centres.
