The Gwalia 500 project aims to partner with 500 local businesses to support the growth of the football club
Gwalia United has unveiled a bold new initiative named The Gwalia 500, calling on 500 Welsh businesses to partner with the football club and help write the next chapter of the club’s story.
The Gwalia 500 aims to bring together businesses across Wales, each receiving exclusive benefits including two season tickets to all home matches as well as a prominent place on the Gwalia 500 Wall of Supporters.
Gwalia United, who currently play in the third tier of the FA Women’s National League – only one Tier away from the recently rebranded WSL2 – are the only Welsh representatives in the English football system and adopted the name ‘Gwalia’ in 2024, a name chosen to reflect resilience, pride, and a deep-rooted connection to Welsh heritage, officially rebranding from Cardiff City Ladies.
As part of the campaign, the club is aiming to make history by setting a record for the world’s largest women’s team photo, a landmark moment in the club’s history.
Co-Owners of Gwalia United, Julian Jenkins and Damien Singh, said: “We’re calling on 500 Welsh businesses to join out family and help us write the next chapter of Gwalia United’s incredible story.
“This is just the beginning of our story, and we are committed to help make a significant impact on women and girls’ football within Wales. Our aim is to get 500 businesses to sign up to The Gwalia 500 through Welsh businesses spreading the word and using their social media platforms to nominate other companies to join this journey.
“The Gwalia 500 is about more than a single club – it’s about the whole of Wales coming together behind women’s football. We’ve shown what can be achieved through community support, and the next phase is to engage Welsh businesses in this journey. If we can unite talent, investment and belief, there’s no reason Wales can’t compete at the very top table of women’s football in the UK.
“This is about Wales getting behind our women’s football as we compete in the English system. The Gwalia 500 gives businesses an affordable way to show their support while also helping us build something historic for the future of the game in Wales.”
Several businesses have already pledged their support for The Gwalia 500, including Vale Solicitors, Daisy Cleaning Services, and Yolk recruitment.
Jon Hewitson of Vale Solicitors said: “Community and collaboration are at the heart of what we do at Vale Solicitors, and that’s exactly why we’re proud to join the Gwalia 500. This initiative is about giving women’s football in Wales the support and recognition it deserves, while showing what can be achieved when local businesses come together behind a common cause.”
Daisy Cleaning Services’ Lucy Smyth said: “We’re really proud to support the Gwalia 500 campaign. At Daisy Cleaning Services, we know how important it is to back local talent and give opportunities for women in sport to thrive. Gwalia United’s ambition and community values really resonate with us, and we’re delighted to play our part in helping the club grow on and off the pitch.”
Dale Williams of Yolk Recruitment said: At Yolk, we believe in backing ambition and talent wherever we see it, and Gwalia United embodies both. With the momentum of the Euros inspiring a new generation, the Gwalia 500is a chance for businesses like ours to step up and be leaders in supporting women’s sport. We’re delighted to be part of a campaign that puts Welsh women’s football firmly on the map.”
Alex James of iStadia Solutions said: “At iStadia Solutions, we’re passionate about helping sport grow through innovation and infrastructure. The Gwalia 500 is about more than sponsorship – it’s about building a platform for women’s football in Wales to thrive and creating opportunities for women and girls of all ages. We’re proud to stand alongside Gwalia United and hundreds of other businesses in shaping a sustainable future for the game.”
Llyr Lane of Gwalia Surveyors said: “Football is driving change in Wales, giving women and girls confidence, ambition and opportunity. Role models matter – because when young players see women succeed, they believe they can too. At Gwalia Surveyors, we’re proud to support Gwalia Utd and its values, championing visibility and equality so every girl in Wales can dream, play and achieve.”
Lloyd Knight of GLK Groundworks said: “Football has the power to inspire and unite, especially here in Wales where community is everything. For young girls, having a clear pathway and visible role models makes all the difference. That’s why I’m proud to support Gwalia 500 – because it’s about more than football, it’s about creating opportunities, building belief, and showing the next generation that their ambitions are possible.”
