Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland has once again proved its festive appeal, securing a place among the UK’s top ten ice skating rinks in a new nationwide study analysing the popularity of winter skating destinations.
According to research by Online-Casinos.com, Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland was ranked tenth overall, placing the Welsh capital alongside some of the most iconic festive skating locations in the country.
A festive favourite in the heart of Cardiff
The study examined highly recommended ice rinks across the UK using a combination of peak-season adult pricing, customer reviews, Instagram activity, and monthly Google search demand to determine the most popular venues.
Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland stood out as a strong value-for-money option, with a peak weekend adult entry price of £18.00, making it the joint fourth-cheapest rink in the UK top ten. The rink also recorded a Google review rating of 4.1, reflecting consistently positive visitor feedback.
Despite competing with much larger and more internationally recognised attractions, Cardiff’s festive rink continues to attract significant interest from locals and visitors alike during the winter season.
A “hidden gem” compared to major UK destinations
One of the most striking findings from the study highlights Cardiff Winter Wonderland as something of a hidden gem. The research found that the rink has just 11 Instagram posts and searches, compared with London’s Winter Wonderland, which dominates social media with 141,106 posts and searches — around 13,000 times more than Cardiff.
This contrast suggests that while Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland may not generate the same level of online visibility as some of the UK’s largest festive attractions, it remains a popular and well-regarded experience for those who attend.
How Cardiff compares nationally
The UK rankings were topped by London’s Winter Wonderland Ice Rink, which claimed first place thanks to its combination of low entry price (£8.25), strong customer ratings, and unmatched Instagram visibility. Other high-ranking locations included Alexandra Palace, Somerset House, and Skate Manchester — the latter achieving the highest Google review rating in the UK at 4.8.
Cardiff’s inclusion in the top ten places it alongside major cities and historic venues across England, reinforcing its reputation as a key festive destination in Wales.
Part of a global skating tradition
The study also compared UK rinks with leading international destinations, finding that the UK’s top three ice rinks all feature in the world’s top seven. Globally, Bank of America Winter Village in New York ranked number one, while Rockefeller Center was named the world’s most Instagrammable ice rink, with more than one million posts and searches.
While Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland operates on a smaller scale, its national ranking highlights its continued popularity and its role in bringing festive experiences to the heart of the Welsh capital each winter.
As the festive season continues, Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland remains a central part of the city’s Christmas offering — combining skating, seasonal atmosphere, and accessibility in a way that continues to resonate with visitors year after year.
